Night Blooming Tuberose in Ecuador Moonlight

by Deanna Wooten

Cold moonlight bleaches the waxy white petals of a towering tuberose spike standing against a dark garden backdrop. The tightly framed shot isolates the flower's dense clusters of blooms, their surfaces smooth and slightly translucent under the pale illumination. Fine dust particles hang suspended in the air just above the ground, catching faint glimmers of the silver light. The dry season air leaves the surrounding foliage rigid and sharp, with deep shadows pooling beneath the plant. One petal edge curves gently downward, its white tip fading into the surrounding darkness.
