Misty Alpine Basin Winter Dawn Near Quito

Thick white mist rests on the undulating slopes of an alpine basin near Quito, obscuring the horizon in a seamless gradient of gray. At first light, the heavy overcast diffuses the sun into a soft, pale glow that reveals no distinct shadows. A vibrant belt of wildflowers stretches across the foreground, their muted reds and yellows standing out against the dormant, frost-dusted grasses of deep winter. The texture of the landscape shifts from the soft, spongy appearance of the mist-shrouded mid-ground to the crisp, detailed petals of the flowers in the immediate foreground. Low-hanging clouds merge with the mountain ridges, creating a vast, still expanse where the earth and sky lose their boundaries. at the edge is a single droplet of condensation clinging to the tip of a violet leaf.
