Silhouetted Schoolhouse Bell in Mardin Ruins in near Mardin

Silhouetted Schoolhouse Bell in Mardin Ruins

by Aria Wyatt

Early winter light falls through sparse, leafless branches to dapple the weathered stone walls of an abandoned schoolhouse near Mardin. The structure stands dark and heavy, its silhouette sharply defined against the bright, clearing sky where storm clouds are breaking apart. A rusted iron bell hangs motionless within the open belfry tower, its surface pitted and textured by decades of exposure. Dried leaves scatter across the cracked masonry and the uneven ground below. Shadows stretch long across the courtyard, marking the late morning sun. at the edge reveals a jagged crack running vertically through the bell's metal rim.
