A heavy winter fog diffuses the pale noon light over a Budapest courtyard where a man in a thick wool coat hangs wet laundry on a rusted iron peg rail. In the immediate foreground, a wicker hamper sits on the frost-stained pavement, its woven texture against the smooth, icy puddle reflecting the gray sky. Behind the drying rack, the facade of a yellow Art Nouveau building features faded ceramic tiles and ornate stucco that prove the location is definitively Hungarian. One red scarf flaps violently in the wind, catching a brief glimpse of color against the monochrome surroundings.
