Silhouetted Irrigation Canals at Dawn in Nicaragua in at the edge of a tea plantation near Managua

Silhouetted Irrigation Canals at Dawn in Nicaragua

by Kevin Chase

Cold silver dawn light floods the landscape where a network of irrigation canals cuts through the edge of a tea plantation near Managua. The water channels appear as dark, linear ribbons against the brightening sky, their surfaces reflecting the pale morning glow. Floating chaff and fine dust drift in the still air, catching the low angle of light and creating a hazy, textured veil over the scene. The wet season leaves the surrounding vegetation lush and deep green, against the stark black silhouettes of the waterways. Tiny ripples disturb the canal surfaces, breaking the reflection into fragmented shards of light that scatter across the dark water. The geometric precision of the canals stands out against the organic sprawl of the tea bushes.
