Salt Basin Silhouette Monsoon Sunset Nicaragua
by Curtis Lowe
A vast salt basin stretches across a flooded plain in Nicaragua, its surface rippling under the weight of the monsoon. The sky bruises deep purple and charcoal gray as the sun dips below the horizon, casting a single, brilliant path of reflected light across the wet crust. Wind whips the water into fine, chaotic ripples that catch the fading glow. The salt flats appear as dark, textured slabs of geology, their edges sharp against the swelling floodwaters. Shadows lengthen rapidly, swallowing the foreground in cool tones while the horizon burns with a thin line of orange fire. The water mirrors the sky perfectly, creating a seamless horizon where the earth and storm clouds merge. A faint white rim of salt crystals lines the edge of the illuminated path, catching the last rays before the night takes over.
