Silhouetted Survey Prism Case on Muddy Connecticut Road

Copper-toned light spills across a muddy construction access road in Connecticut as early winter settles in. A black survey prism case sits centered on the uneven, churned earth, its plastic surfaces reflecting the fading sun. The object stands in sharp silhouette against a perfectly clear sky, devoid of clouds or haze. Bare branches of distant trees reach upward, their leafless forms stark against the brightening horizon. The ground shows deep tire tracks and clumps of wet soil, evidence of recent vehicle movement. Shadows stretch long and dark across the mud, at the base of the equipment in the cold, quiet air. The case rests firmly on the uneven surface, its edges defined by the backlighting. A small patch of frost glistens near the bottom corner of the frame.
