Salmon Leap in Patagonian Twilight in in Patagonia

Salmon Leap in Patagonian Twilight

by Avery Kennedy

Indigo twilight washes the Patagonian river, reflecting the faint last light across the rushing water. A salmon arcs upward, its silver scales catching the dim glow as it fights the current. Wind whips the surface into sharp ripples and white foam around the falling water. The fish hangs suspended against the dark, churning drop, muscles taut in a final effort to spawn. Behind the leaping form, the riverbank fades into shadow, revealing only the rough texture of wet stones and the chaotic motion of the cascade. Water droplets scatter in the air, catching the light like scattered glass before vanishing into the gloom.
