Hellbender Salamander in Appalachian Stream Twilight
Cool blue light washes the surface of a clear Appalachian stream where a massive hellbender salamander rests on a bed of smooth, wet river stones. The amphibian's mottled brown and grey skin blends with the rocky substrate, its wrinkled hide glistening under the faint evening glow. Raindrops create tiny, concentric ripples across the water's surface, distorting the reflection of the overhanging forest canopy. The water is shallow and transparent, revealing submerged gravel and fallen leaves along the streambed. Along the bank, ferns and damp moss rest on the earth, their green tones deepened by the recent drizzle. The wide panoramic view shows the quiet stillness of the water, with the salamander remaining motionless as the light fades. One ripple from a falling raindrop breaks the surface near the creature's tail.
