Saiga Antelope Herd in Tennessee Twilight
by Keith Witt
Steel-blue ambient light washes over a grassy Tennessee steppe under indigo twilight skies. A herd of saiga antelopes stands clustered on the rolling terrain, their distinctive bulbous noses prominent against the fading daylight. The ground shows patches of damp earth and scattered green grass, evidence of a recent storm that is now clearing. Long shadows stretch across the field, cast by the low angle of the setting sun. The birds-eye perspective reveals the spatial arrangement of the animals, creating a pattern of dark forms against the muted landscape. Wind-swept tufts of grass lie flat in the foreground, while the antelopes remain still, their fur catching the last cool hues of the evening. The edge of a distant tree line marks the boundary of the open plain.
