Derelict Asbestos Mine Kütahya Sunrise Steel

by Marco Cruz

Pale dawn light spills across rusted structural steel beams leaning against the earth near Kütahya. The air hangs heavy and humid, clinging to the wet, gray surfaces of the derelict asbestos mine. Orange warning signs, faded by years of neglect, remain attached to the chain-link fences that enclose the site. Late autumn leaves, brown and brittle, scatter across the muddy ground, mingling with pebbles and loose gravel. The steel girders show deep orange corrosion where the first rays of sunrise strike them, against the cool blue shadows in the background. A small puddle reflects the pale sky near the base of a rusted support column. The fence wire is tight, holding back the overgrown vegetation that creeps toward the industrial ruins.
