Roman Amphitheater Ruin Silhouetted in Tainan Fog in along a vine-choked corridor near Tainan

Roman Amphitheater Ruin Silhouetted in Tainan Fog

by Finn Watson

Soft, diffused afternoon light washes over a vine-choked corridor near Tainan, where ground fog pools in the lowest depressions. A Roman amphitheater ruin stands silhouetted against the bright, overcast sky, its ancient stone arches reduced to dark, jagged shapes. The dry season leaves the surrounding vegetation brittle and brown, against the deep green vines that rest on the crumbling walls. Dust hangs heavy in the air, settling on the uneven ground where the stone meets the earth. The fog swells around the base of the structure, hiding the foundation and making the ruin appear to float above the mist. One shadow stretches across the foggy floor, marking the edge of the stone.
