Ivy-Covered Ruins in Trinidad Ceremonial Court

by Titus Snider

Thick green ivy climbs the crumbling limestone walls of a derelict manor, threading through empty rectangular window frames that stare out over an abandoned ceremonial court. The dry season air leaves the stone surfaces pale and dusty, against the vibrant vines. Reflected light from a nearby water body washes the scene in a soft, shimmering glow, eliminating harsh shadows. Low-lying ground fog pools in the depressions of the courtyard floor, hovering just above the cracked stone pavement. The structure stands heavy and silent, its architectural details softened by time and vegetation. A final strand of ivy drapes across the lower left corner of a broken archway, anchoring the ruin to the earth.
