Rainbow Spectrum from Crystal Suncatcher Over Thunderheads
by Joanne Cantu
A sharp rainbow spectrum fractures across the air, cast by a faceted crystal suncatcher suspended in the foreground. The prism sits silhouetted against a wall of stacked thunderheads, their dark gray bases pressing low near the Jalingo horizon. Midday tropical light floods the scene, turning the cloud tops into brilliant white ridges while the lower storm layers remain heavy and brooding. Green leaves skitter rapidly across the ground in the foreground, driven by sudden gusts that ripple through the vegetation. The crystal catches the intense sunlight, projecting a vivid band of red, orange, yellow, and violet that cuts diagonally through the gloom. The contrast between the delicate, colorful light beam and the massive, ominous storm clouds creates a striking visual tension. One leaf rests on the dark ground beneath the falling light.
