Ottoman Caravanserai Ruins in Ontario Evening

by Colton Castro

Orange low-angle light spills across the open courtyard of a crumbling Ottoman caravanserai, highlighting rough-hewn stone walls that rise from the earth without roofs. Late spring greenery pushes through cracks in the weathered masonry, against the warm, honeyed glow of the setting sun. A thin layer of fog hangs low over the ground, softening the base of the crumbling arches and drifting between the roofless stone chambers. The wide panoramic view reveals the scale of the decay, where structural columns stand isolated against the fading sky. Dust settles on the uneven flagstones, and the texture of eroded limestone catches the light along the jagged edges of the broken vaults. Shadows stretch long across the floor, ending abruptly at the base of a fractured pillar.
