Abandoned Namibian Caravanserai Twilight Ruins in among roofless stone chambers in Namibia

Abandoned Namibian Caravanserai Twilight Ruins

by Katya Gentry

Pale ochre stone arches lean precariously over roofless chambers filled with drifting sand dunes. The cool season air leaves the ancient masonry crisp and dusted with fine grit. Twilight deepens the shadows within the collapsed vaults while a soft, warm glow from a distant town illuminates the horizon line. The sky above is a gradient of indigo to violet, perfectly clear and unbroken by clouds. Drifts of pale sand spill over the rough, weathered surfaces, partially burying the stone foundations. The texture of the eroded blocks contrasts sharply with the smooth, wind-sculpted ridges of the dunes settling into the architectural voids.
