A red navigation light pulses from a concrete beacon mounted atop a dam spillway in Oregon. Thin sea mist rests on the wet gray stone, softening the rigid edges of the engineered structure. First rays of sunrise slice through the drizzle, catching droplets suspended in the air and illuminating the rough texture of the concrete surface. The low angle emphasizes the vertical force of the tower against the pale sky. Water trickles down the spillway face, creating a glossy sheen that reflects the fading twilight. One droplet rolls slowly down the red housing, tracing a path through the morning dampness.
