Snowplow on Black Lava Field Lhasa

by Johnny Yates

Steel-blue twilight washes the high-altitude landscape near Lhasa, where a heavy snowplow traverses a jagged field of black volcanic rock. The machine's bodywork is caked with thick mud and patches of frost, evidence of the harsh autumn conditions. Thick mist rests on the ground, softening the edges of the dark lava stones while the vehicle's bright orange safety lights cast sharp, charged reflections on the wet surfaces. Leading lines formed by the tire tracks cut through the mist, guiding toward the machine's massive front blade. The sky above fades into a deep indigo, against the rough, matte texture of the cooled lava and the glossy sheen of moisture on the plow's metal. One patch of ice reflects the dim light on the truck's fender.
