Mushroom Coral on Sandy Reef Flat Near Cairns

Pale beige mushroom coral clusters spread across a white sandy bottom, their rounded caps casting soft shadows on the granular surface. Above, the water column glows with suspended particles that glitter like scattered diamonds in the reflected noon light. A vertical coral wall rises in the background, separating the flat from deep blue water that fades into the distance. The cool season clarity makes the sand appear bright and the coral textures sharp. Small marine organisms rest on the edges of the coral heads. Tiny bubbles rise slowly near the surface. at the edge is a single grain of sand resting on the rim of a coral cap, catching the light.
