Moss on Fujian Cliff Wall After Storm
by Diego Pierce
Vibrant emerald moss blankets the weathered stone blocks of a coastal retaining wall, its texture thick and damp against the rough, salt-bleached gray rock. Hard late morning sunlight strikes the surface, creating sharp contrasts between the wet, dark patches of vegetation and the dry, pale masonry. The wall stands along the edge of a steep cliff, where the air remains heavy with the aftermath of a storm clearing over the Fujian coastline. Tiny droplets rest on the moss fronds, catching the glare in fleeting points of white light. Beyond the immediate foreground, the vast, empty expanse of the ocean stretches to a hazy horizon, showing the isolation of the stone structure. The edge of the wall meets a patch of bare, wind-scoured earth before dropping away into the deep blue void.
