Meerkat Family Sentinel on Mound at Sunset

Golden hour light washes the dry earth in Windhoek, casting long shadows across the dusty mound where a family of meerkats stands alert. Their coarse fur glows amber under the low sun, against the muted greens of sparse rain season vegetation nearby. Dust hangs in the air, softening the distant horizon into a hazy blue-gray band. Each animal stands upright on hind legs, paws tucked close to chests, scanning the open ground. The group clusters at the edge of the frame, their dark eyes reflecting the fading light. Behind them, faint outlines of urban structures fade into the atmospheric haze, at the base of the scene in a specific, gritty reality.
