Kangaroo Mob in Amber Winter Sunset Light

by Kathryn Morris

Rich amber sunset light spills across a frozen waterhole, illuminating a tight cluster of kangaroos huddled in the dead of winter. Thick ground fog pools around their padded feet, obscuring the muddy banks and creating a soft, white void beneath their grey-brown fur. Their ears stand alert and upright, showing the patient stillness of predators or prey waiting in the cold. The fur on their shoulders appears thick and matted with frost, while their dark eyes reflect the low, golden sun. Behind them, bare branches of coastal scrub pierce the mist, framing the group against a backdrop of fading daylight. One reflection of the amber sky shimmers on the icy edge of the water.
