Marabou Stork on Termite Mound Near Athens Tidal Inlet
Heavy gray clouds press low over the tidal inlet, diffusing the late morning light into a flat, even wash across the landscape. A massive marabou stork stands motionless atop a textured termite mound, its pale, wrinkled skin and dark wing feathers against the rough, reddish-brown earth of the mound. The bird's long, spindly legs grip the uneven surface, while its broad wings remain folded tight against its body. Behind the mound, the calm water of the inlet stretches toward the distant, hazy shoreline of Pangrati, where dry, scrubby vegetation rests on the rocky banks. The sky offers no direct shadows, leaving the scene in a soft, muted clarity that highlights the rough textures of the bird's skin and the craggy surface of the mound. A small ripple breaks the stillness of the water near the reed-lined edge.
