Hoopoe Fanning Crest on Fence Post Near Water
Flat noon light reflects off the tidal inlet water, illuminating a hoopoe perched atop a weathered wooden fence post. The bird spreads its fan-shaped crest, revealing alternating black and white stripes against the pale sky. Fine white flakes drift down from the overcast gray, settling on the rough bark and the bird's barred feathers. The dry season grasses below appear brittle and straw-colored, against the dark wood of the post. The hoopoe's sharp, curved beak points downward while its crest stands fully erect.
