Malta Penstock Bend Wet Early Autumn Afternoon

Hard afternoon sunlight strikes the curved concrete of a massive penstock bend rising above a spillway chute in Malta. Water spray rises in fine mist from the chute below, catching the light against a backdrop of low-hanging gray clouds. The wet concrete surface glistens with a slick sheen, reflecting the pale sky and the dark, taut cables that anchor the structure. Early autumn air hangs heavy, evidenced by the dampness clinging to the metal joints and the muted green of marsh grasses fringing the concrete base. Leading lines of the curved pipe draw the eye upward toward the structural joints, where steel bolts stand out against the gray stone. A final droplet of water rests on the edge of a metal bracket before falling into the churning spray below.
