Libyan Sinkhole Cenote Roots in Amber Dusk Light

by Svetlana Khan

Copper-toned light washes over a deep sinkhole in Libya, illuminating thick roots that hang from the rim down into the dark water below. The view looks straight down, framing the circular opening against the surrounding dry, cracked earth of early winter. Light drizzle strikes the surface, creating concentric ripples that distort the reflection of the hanging roots. Rough, textured bark contrasts with the smooth, dark water where the roots descend. The amber glow highlights the edges of the soil and the submerged stones visible beneath the disturbed surface. A root tip breaks the water, sending faint circles outward across the dark plane.
