Leopard Seal Hunting in Mombasa Kelp Forest

Hard coastal glare slices through exceptionally clear water, illuminating a leopard seal gliding beneath a rocky shelf. Thick green kelp fronds sway slowly in the current, framing the animal's spotted grey body as it navigates the underwater landscape. The late afternoon light creates sharp contrasts on the seal's sleek fur and the jagged rocks behind it. Rainy season conditions bring slow-moving surface ripples that distort the sunlight into shifting patterns on the seabed. A shallow depth of field blurs the distant background, focusing attention on the predator's focused gaze and the texture of the kelp leaves. The water remains still, holding the scene in a suspended, otherworldly blue quiet. One ray of light catches the edge of a kelp blade, highlighting its translucent green veins against the dark rock.
