Dry Cracked Fountain in Bahrain Vine Corridor

by Blake Dalton

Sunlight falls through dense green vines that choke the stone walls of a forsaken hacienda in Bahrain. The courtyard center holds a dry fountain basin, its surface fractured into deep, jagged cracks that reveal the earth beneath. Monsoon moisture darkens the stone edges, creating a contrast between the wet moss clinging to the lower corners and the bleached, dusty plaster above. Shadows shift rapidly across the floor as wind pushes the heavy foliage, making the dappled light pattern dance over the broken tiles. One piece of weathered wood rests against the crumbling archway, its grain swollen from recent rain. The vines hang low, almost touching the cracked stone rim of the empty basin.
