Great White Shark Breaching Seal at Reef Edge

by Gregory Wallace

Green underwater light falls through surface ripples, illuminating a great white shark mid-leap as it clamps its jaws around a seal. The creature emerges from a cold-water reef edge in Salvador, its grey dorsal side against the white underbelly. Suspended particles glitter in the water column, catching the bright midmorning sun that breaks through the surface above. The shark's powerful tail drives it upward, while the seal's dark fur appears matted against the predator's teeth. Water droplets hang in the air near the breach point, catching the light. The reef edge below shows rugged textures of rock and algae, fading into the deep blue void beneath the shark's body. A final shadow falls across the lower right corner of the frame.
