Goa Rice Terraces Reflecting Monsoon Clouds

Stepped pools of standing water cascade down the hillside, each basin mirroring the heavy, white cumulus clouds that dominate the clear sky. The water surfaces remain glassy, holding the reflection of the dry mountain light without ripples. Green rice shoots emerge in neat rows from the shallow depths, their stems sharp against the dark, wet earth of the bunds. The terraces create a geometric rhythm across the slope, with water levels varying slightly between each step. Shadows fall softly along the inner edges of the walls, defining the depth of the pools. At the lowest visible edge, a narrow irrigation channel cuts through the soil, its surface disturbed by a small, lingering ripple.
