Flooded Rice Terraces Reflecting Dawn Light in between vineyard trellises in Queensland

Flooded Rice Terraces Reflecting Dawn Light

by Desmond Rangel

Irrigation water shines between rows of young rice plants, creating a mirror surface that shows the pale morning sky. Low sun touches the field mist, casting a soft glow across the flooded terraces. The plants stand in neat, parallel lines, their green stalks silhouetted against the bright, hazy light. Mist hovers just above the water, diffusing the dawn rays into a gentle luminescence. The water ripples slightly, distorting the cloud reflections into shifting patterns of silver and grey. Darker shadows fall between the rows, showing the depth of the flooded channels. The turn of seasons is visible in the fresh, vibrant green of the new growth against the still-damp earth. One reflection of a cloud edge breaks the uniformity of the water's surface.
