Hard Stars Over Frozen Alaskan Reservoir Twilight in beneath a hard winter sky over snowfields near Anchorage

Hard Stars Over Frozen Alaskan Reservoir Twilight

by Faith Wilson

Cobalt twilight bleeds across a landscape where snowfields meet a reservoir that has become a sheet of mirror-still open water. The surface reflects the entire arctic summer sky, duplicating the hard stars and the thin veil of ground mist that hovers just above the ground. Snowbanks rise on either side, their white textures sharp against the deep blue of the water. The reflection creates a perfect vertical symmetry, making the horizon line disappear into an endless repetition of cold, cosmic distance. Frost patterns etch the edges of the ice where the water meets the frozen banks. at the edge is a single star reflected directly beneath a snowdrift, anchoring the impossible stillness to the physical world.
