Paella Pan Seafood Shadows Defy Light

A wide copper paella pan rests on a polished marble table, filled with rice, mussels, shrimp, and squid. Broad midday skylight floods the room, bouncing off pale walls to create a bright, airy space. Warm shadows pool under the table legs and along the marble edges, yet the dark shapes cast by the pan and its seafood contents stretch upward and outward toward the bright window, defying the natural direction of light. The rice grains gleam with oil, and the shellfish textures appear sharp against the smooth stone. A small reflection of the pan rim appears on the marble surface, at the base of the impossible geometry in a tangible, everyday setting.
