Golden light spills across a rugged sandstone ledge where a Gila monster rests. The reptile's black skin, patterned with vivid orange bands, contrasts against the rough, reddish-brown rock surface. Below the ledge, a glacial stream cuts through the valley, its pale blue water moving against the darkening terrain. The sky above holds a flawless, deepening blue with no clouds in sight. Cool season air is evident in the sharp, clear definition of the landscape and the absence of lush vegetation. The creature sits low, its textured scales catching the fading sun, while the edge of the rock falls away steeply toward the water. A sharp shadow stretches from the animal's head onto the stone, marking the low angle of the setting sun.
