Frost Crusted Wheel at Russian Canal Lock Dawn
Thick white frost coats the heavy iron spokes of a sluice gate wheel, standing stark against the pale blue mist of a Russian canal lock. The scene sits at the dead of winter, where the first light of dawn diffuses through a low fog, softening the edges of the stone lock walls. Instead of rising, thick plumes of steam fall downward like heavy, viscous liquid, pooling around the base of the wheel and clinging to the wet metal. The texture of the ice crystals glistens under the gray light, against the dark, wet stone of the canal floor. A final droplet of condensed moisture hangs from the lowest spoke, waiting to fall into the dark water below.
