Steam Rising from Moscow Sidewalk Grate at Night

Thick white vapor erupts violently from a circular iron grate set into cracked concrete pavement beneath a massive steel elevated railway. The heavy overcast sky blocks the stars, yet a faint, diffuse ground glow illuminates the steam's chaotic plume. Dark, wet asphalt surrounds the vent, reflecting the pale light. Rust stains streak the metal rim of the grate, against the cold, smooth concrete. Overhead, the dark underbelly of the train tracks creates a cavernous ceiling. The steam twists upward, dissipating into the gloom of the deep night. One rivet on the grate catches a glint of the ambient light.
