Fossil Layers on Cliff Face in Norbulingka Lhasa

by Micheal Knox

Striated sedimentary rock dominates the view, displaying distinct horizontal bands of ochre, rust, and pale cream. The flat noon sun casts sharp, unyielding shadows that carve depth into the textured strata. Dry grasses rest on the rocky crevices, their tips browned by early autumn heat. A section of traditional whitewashed masonry appears at the lower right, against the raw geology. The sky above is a seamless, cloudless blue, providing a stark backdrop for the layered stone. A small patch of green moss persists in a shaded recess near the base of the cliff.
