Coral Reef Surveyor at Belize Volcanic Overhang

Salt-bleached hair catches the honeyed evening glow as a surveyor floats beside a dark volcanic reef overhang. Tan lines mark the shoulders of a wetsuit that rests on the body, against the exceptionally clear water. Slow-moving surface ripples fracture the horizon light, wrapping the submerged figure in shifting bands of amber and deep blue. Bubbles rise in a faint trail from the regulator, breaking the stillness of the monsoon season. The rough, porous texture of the black volcanic rock anchors the left side of the frame, while the surveyor's face remains partially obscured by the water's surface tension. One ray of sunlight pierces the water column, illuminating a speck of suspended sediment near the diver's gloved hand.
