First light falls through low-hanging winter clouds, softening the gray metal and casting faint reflections on the wet surface. Badge readers mounted on the side panel show dark rectangular slots, while exclusion signs with red borders hang motionless nearby. Washdown brushes with stiff bristles rest against the mat at the base, their fibers matted with dust. The railing curves into the fog, hinting at the scale of the site beyond. One bolt on the hinge catches the pale light, marking the point where the metal meets the stone floor.
