Norwegian Chalk Cliff Reflected in Drizzle in along a wave-cut shoreline in Norway

Norwegian Chalk Cliff Reflected in Drizzle

by Jo Giles

Soft gray light from a late afternoon sky washes over a steep chalk cliff capped with dormant early spring greenery. The white rock face descends sharply to a dark, wet shoreline where a blue sea churns under a light drizzle. Water droplets speckle the air and rest on the cliff edge, blurring the boundary between stone and sky. The sea surface acts as a mirror, duplicating the cliff's vertical lines and the muted greens of the top layer in a perfect, rippled reflection. Dark waves crash against the base, sending fine mist upward that catches the ambient light. The entire composition rests on the horizontal seam where the real cliff meets its watery twin, creating a symmetrical anchor of geologic weight.
