Cave House Atrium Near Urgup Dusk Glow
Rough-hewn volcanic rock walls curve into a high vaulted atrium carved directly from the soft tuff of a Cappadocian fairy chimney. Cool grey stone surfaces glisten with a thin sheen of moisture from recent rain, catching the warm, amber sodium-vapor light that spills in from the opening. Small, uneven windows puncture the thick walls, framing distant city lights that begin to glow in the early winter twilight. The floor is packed earth, slightly damp and dark where water has settled in the low corners. Dust hangs visibly in the amber beams, suspended in the humid air. A wooden beam supports the ceiling, its grain worn smooth by time, resting against the irregular, pitted texture of the stone arch above. The contrast between the cool, wet stone and the artificial orange glow defines the space.
