Cappadocia Archive Facade Winter Light in outside a wind-scoured fortress wall in Cappadocia

Cappadocia Archive Facade Winter Light

by Cooper Whitley

Predawn darkness envelops the stone facade of an archive structure built into a wind-scoured fortress wall in Cappadocia. Deep shadows dominate the lower half of the tuff stone, while a sharp rim light traces the upper edges of the masonry against a heavy overcast sky. Rain has left the porous rock surface glistening with a dark, wet sheen, highlighting the rough texture of the eroded tuff. Converging lines of the architectural recesses draw toward a vanishing point deep within the fortress. The midsummer season is hinted at only by the specific state of the weathered stone, devoid of snow or frost, against the cool, grey light of the early morning. one drop of water rests on the corner of a carved archway before falling.
