Bryde's Whale Lunging Through Winter Sardine Ball

Early morning light falls through the surface, casting a pale blue glow over exceptionally clear winter waters off the Japanese coast. A massive Bryde's whale dominates the frame, its dark grey skin textured with barnacles and scars, lunging forward with its mouth wide open. Hundreds of silver sardines swirl in a tight, chaotic bait ball around the whale's snout, their scales reflecting the low sun. The water remains still except for slow surface ripples that distort the horizon haze. Bubbles rise from the whale's blowhole, trailing upward toward the light. The scene shows the raw power of the predator against the delicate shimmer of the prey. One sardine hangs suspended near the whale's lower jaw, its silver flank catching the dim light.
