Beaver Dam on Wind-Scoured Ridge at Twilight

Cool blue evening light washes over a dense beaver dam constructed of interlocking branches and mud across a narrow forest stream. The structure rises from the water, its rough bark textures and wet, dark mud against the smooth, glassy surface of the pond behind it. Low-hanging gray clouds press against the ridgeline, casting a uniform, shadowless glow over the wind-scoured stones and scattered autumn leaves. The surrounding forest fades into soft focus, with bare branches and early yellow foliage hinting at the season. From behind the dam, the water flows gently toward the foreground, reflecting the pale sky above. One, wet twig protrudes from the top edge of the dam, glistening under the fading light.
