Slow Loris on Branch at Night Rim Light in beside a tidal inlet near Tongi

Slow Loris on Branch at Night Rim Light

by Sandra Russell

Deep shadow swallows the foreground while a thin rim of pale light traces the silhouette of a slow loris perched on a rough branch. The animal faces away, its dense fur appearing almost black against the dim backdrop of a tidal inlet near Tongi. Bare branches stretch into the dark sky, stripped of leaves by the dry season. Behind the subject, the water reflects a faint, broken glow from a clearing storm, creating a soft, horizontal band of silver. The air remains still, marked only by the sharp outline of the loris and the wet, glistening texture of the bark beneath its claws. A final drop of water rests on the very tip of the nearest twig.
