Indigo twilight washes over a roofless parlor in Kinshasa, where rain falls directly onto the black lacquer of an abandoned upright piano. Water pools in the key wells, darkening the ivory keys beneath a steady downpour. Faded footlights cast weak, warm halos on the wet wooden floorboards, struggling against the gathering dusk and dramatic, heavy clouds overhead. The room's open ceiling reveals the storm's depth, while rain streaks down the piano's curved side, blurring the polished surface. Dust settles on the lower bench, untouched by the deluge that soaks the instrument's upper structure. at the edge is a single key, slightly depressed, holding a bead of water that threatens to drip onto the floor below.
