Abandoned Desert Caravanserai Ruins Near Jeddah

by Roman Orozco

Hard coastal glare illuminates the roofless stone chambers of an ancient caravanserai standing near Jeddah. Sun-bleached limestone walls rise in fragmented arches, their tops collapsed into piles of rubble. Drifted sand fills the floor, creating soft dunes that climb against the rough masonry. Heat haze shimmers above the ground, blurring the distant horizon. The sky is a stark, washed-out blue, offering no relief from the midsummer intensity. Dust settles on every surface, softening the sharp edges of the stone. A shadow falls across a broken pillar, revealing the texture of weathered rock beneath the grit.
