Concrete Bunker Ruin in Riyadh Dunes in beneath a broken stone arch near Riyadh

Concrete Bunker Ruin in Riyadh Dunes

by Dalton Kennedy

Pale morning light breaks over the horizon, illuminating drifting dust particles that hang in shafts of gold above a crumbling concrete bunker. The structure sits half-buried within coastal dunes, its weathered gray surfaces pitted and stained by years of exposure. A broken stone arch frames the view, its rough limestone texture against the smooth, eroded concrete of the bunker. Cool season air settles over the dry sand, leaving no footprints or recent disturbances. The low sun casts long, sharp shadows across the dune ridges, showing the depth of the erosion. The bunker's hollowed windows reflect the bright sky, while loose gravel accumulates at the base of the wall.
