Abandoned Bathhouse Mosaic Cornish Ruin in along a vine-choked corridor in Cornwall

Abandoned Bathhouse Mosaic Cornish Ruin

by April Welch

Vine-choked stone walls define a narrow corridor where late autumn mist rests on the damp ground. A frame-within-a-frame opening reveals the interior of a ruined bathhouse, its backlit silhouette stark against the setting sun. Mosaic tiles in faded blues and ochres peel away from the damp surfaces, scattering across the floor in jagged patches. Thick tendrils of ivy wrap around the crumbling archway, their leaves turning brown and brittle. The low angle of the sunset casts long, dark shadows that stretch across the wet stones, showing the texture of the decaying masonry. One loose tile rests on a root, its glaze reflecting the dying light.
