Yukon Stair Hall Reclaimed by Vines in Predawn

by Axel Savage

Cold moonlight falls through the broken roof of a wooden stair hall in the Yukon, illuminating a dense curtain of green vines that have overtaken the banister. The air hangs heavy and humid, visible as a faint haze clinging to the rough, splintered wood of the steps. Ferns and moss coat the floor, thriving in the endless summer twilight that never fully darkens. Layers of depth recede as the staircase winds upward, swallowed by the thick, damp vegetation. Wet leaves glisten under the pale glow, against the gray, weathered planks that form the structural skeleton. One vine stem twists tightly around a railing post, anchoring the green growth to the decaying timber.
